Kinect merupakan peripheral Microsoft yang mampu mendeteksi gerakan, dimana pertama kali dirilis dijadikan add-on untuk Xbox360. Kinect saat itu juga sudah diadaptasikan untuk digunakan pada komputer Windows, setelah banyaknya pengembang yang menemukan cara baru untuk memanfaatkan kapasitasnya. Namun kali ini Microsoft akan menggunakannya untuk Windows Phone 8 mereka.
Apple memang memiliki tampilan yang dapat diatur melalui sentuhan dan iOS juga sudah mendapatkan fitur gesture-recoginition, namun semua fitur tersebut tidak bisa dibandingkan dengan Kinect. Inilah laporan yang diberikan oleh Microsoft mengenai kehadiran Kinect NUI yang sampai saat ini masih dalam tahap pengembangan.

After checking with several sober sources which proved reliable in the past, Microsoft is currently working on integrating the Kinect NUI (Natural User Interface) with its mobile platform using upcoming Windows Phone 8. While this is currently purely a development effort, we have been hearing that Microsoft decided to dedicate more and more resources on building the Kinect NUI to become a feature with either a launch or first or second update to its upcoming Windows Mobile 8 operating system.'
